Chapter Ten

After literally forty-something drafts of this email to my stupid Statistics professor, I'm starting to panic even more than I was already. I'm just incoherent now, which is definitely not going to convince the professor that I'm not just some dumb athlete who's going to fail whatever make up assignment I get given.

I'm freaking out enough that I can't concentrate on my Bio readings either, which is probably going to fuck me up later too. But I'm just wiped all to hell. There's nothing to do except try to get some sleep and hope it all fixes itself in the morning.

Unsurprisingly, when I wake up, I still have forty-something drafts of an email in my inbox and I'm still off the fucking hockey team. I have Stats this afternoon, so I can't let things go on this long. I have to ask before the next class.

Head drooping until it's practically touching the keyboard, I slam something together and hit send before I can overthink it too much. Maybe it'll be the end of me, who knows.

When I look up at the clock, it's late, or at least late for me. Ten a.m. is pretty normal for most students, but I'm used to early practices. I guess I just didn't set my alarm the usual way because I was having such a rough time last night. Not that I have practice to go to anyway.

While I'm waiting for my Stats prof to email me back, the smart thing to do would probably be to get a head start on all the homework from the last couple days that I've been ignoring, but that's just not going to happen. I pick up my Bio book for about eight seconds and have to put it down because I haven't taken in a single word. I try to look over my Stats notes, but it all feels like gibberish. Maybe that's why I failed.

In light of all of this, I take a two-minute break to watch a video of dogs running around in a field that my mom emailed to me. It's really cute, I think, lying back in bed with my phone in my hand. Lookit them run.

Two full hours later, I wake up. My phone is now flat on my forehead and I can feel the mark that the hard, plastic case is going to leave there. Today is just improving by leaps and bounds, for sure.

After my impromptu nap, I feel restless again. There's still no word from my professor, so I head out to the gym instead. I can run through my normal workout in my sleep, starting with cardio on the bikes, moving on to some stretching and weights, and finishing with another round of cardio. It's just weird doing it by myself. I don't need a spotter for most of it, but there's just a couple things where it would be handy, and it's almost bizarre not to have one of my teammates right there on hand to offer to help.
